Why your help is needed
Thousands of people in India are living with HIV, and volunteers on this project
have the opportunity to get directly involved in supporting people living with the
condition.
The project is located in the Community Care and Support Centre (CCSO) in Goa, which
acts as a bridge between health care institutions and patients’ families. Volunteers
are needed at the centre to help care for patients who have been left out of their
social circles due to their condition and to work to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS
among local communities. Volunteers have the opportunity to get involved in initiatives
such as organising HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns around Goa that are urgently needed
in order to address the uncertainty, stigma and confusion that surround the condition.
As volunteers are heavily involved in both assisting with basic medical work at
the support centre and with working to raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS, they are
able to make a difference to individuals and communities on a number of levels.
