Why your help is needed
As with many public services in Ghana, hospitals, care homes and clinics can be
underfunded and understaffed. Due to financial constraints, hospitals can find it
difficult to employ adequate staff and may be poorly equipped in comparison to those
in the developed world. It can therefore be challenging for doctors and nurses to
provide Ghanaian people with quality medical care.
This means that support from volunteers is highly valued. Working in busy medical
centres, volunteers offer much-needed assistance in a number of areas of medical
practice, from recording medical backgrounds to examining patients. Volunteers might
be working with people with physical, emotional or psychological disabilities so
there is no typical day, making the project as challenging and worthwhile as it
is rewarding.
How long can I go for? 2-6 months, with a five-day arrival orientation.
Working hours: 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week
