Experienced Interviewers Required

platform2 logo Platform2 is an exciting DFID-funded initiative to send less advantaged young people (aged 18-25) from the UK to volunteer in developing countries. The programme is run by a consortium including BUNAC and Christian Aid. Volunteers will work on community-based projects and will live with the local communities.

Volunteers are recruited from all over the UK, and are selected for the programme after attending a one to one interview. We are therefore recruiting experienced and enthusiastic interviewers to conduct interviews with prospective volunteers on an ad hoc basis.

Interviews will take place in city centre venues in the following cities:
London Newcastle Plymouth/Exeter
Bristol Birmingham Belfast

Interviews will last approximately one and a half hours and will include a range of questions but also a lot of explanation about what it might be like living and working in a developing country. There will normally be 4 interviews in a day, starting around 9.30am and finishing around 6pm. Interviewers will also be responsible for checking CRB application forms and verifying the ID which the volunteers will bring.

Interviewers will complete a summary report; follow up with one of the two references provided; and give an overall assessment of eligibility and suitability. They will also have to assess applicants’ ability to cope with the different challenges of the programme so that we can allocate a suitable project and country. Reports must be submitted within a week of the interviews taking place, and paperwork must be returned by post.

Interviewers must:

  • have lived and worked in a developing country for at least 3 months
  • have a reasonable amount of experience of interviewing
  • have experience of working with young people
  • be available for at least 4 days a month, preferably weekdays
  • be able to travel to venues within 2 hours of their home
  • have access to a computer to be able to write up reports and email them.

Interviewers will receive £125 for a day if 4 people interviewed. We guarantee a minimum of £100 for a day to protect interviewers from the impact of no-shows. We also pay for all reasonable travel costs for the day, if supported by valid receipts. If using your own vehicle we will pay petrol costs at £0.40 per mile, however we ask that interviewers use public transport where possible due to high costs of petrol and parking. We also pay £5 per day for lunch and if interviewers do not get home till after 8pm, we will pay £10 for dinner costs.

We are continually looking for new interviewers, so if you are interested and you think that you have the right skills and experience, please send your CV and a covering note explaining why you think you would be a suitable candidate to Caroline Clark at carolinec@myplatform2.com. If you have any questions, please call Caroline on 0800 988 6828.
